The Shri Ram Universal School (TSUS) embarked on the commencement of the “Exploring Science Week” on February 12, 2018 with the celebration of 209th birthday of the legendary scientist, Charles Darwin. The Students (Shriites) from Grade IV and V discussed the Darwin’s evolution theory and its relevance in the modern world. They used various experiments to validate solutions to interesting and thought provoking problems around them through Evolutionary Design Thinking.

Ms. Sindhura Indukuri, Mr.Srinivas Kurra along with the panel of experts with expertise in Science, Art and Design graced the stage with the esteemed Chief Guest. The Socratic dialogue on the EDT presented by Shriites was judged by a panel comprising of educationalists such as Dr. Sujatha Maringanti, founder ACHA, Ms.Karthi Subbaraman, founder Oghma Designs, Dr.Insaf Qureshi, Assistant Professor, University of Hyderabad, Dr. G.B Madhu Babu, Assistant Professor, University of Hyderabad and Dr. Prasad Krishnan, Assistant Professor, IIT Hyderabad. The first day of the ‘Exploring Science Week’ at TSUS witnessed the Shriites in an All-New-Avatar where they not only projected their case study through data and research but addressed and answered the questions put forth by the panel as well as live internet audience with exceptional confidence and poise.
At TSUS, two values are celebrated every month. The values of the month February – open-mindedness and hard work were clearly demonstrated through a unique approach of dialogue and debate where Shriites worked on a very complex topic of Evolutional Design Thinking with much receptiveness and perseverance. The panel was spellbound by the presentations made by Shriites with sheer passion and they appreciated the school for its effort to bring forth and emphasize on the cognitive thinking ability of its students.
The Chief Guest concluded the session with his remarks – “It is immensely satisfying to see students from Grade IV and V present such complex topics with such high level of confidence. To be bold is indeed the trait that every child should possess in today’s world that works on Darwin’s theory of Survival of the Fittest”
‘Understanding Science in Daily Life’ was another interesting and intriguing concept that was displayed during the science week. Shriites showcased simple experiments based on day-to-day life experiences where Science is being inherently used. From the composition of toothpaste to the functioning of motor parts using solar panels; the basics were observed, understood and displayed through simple science experiments.
To provide a 360-degree experiential learning experience to its students during the ‘Exploring Science Week’, the school arranged a PLANETARIUM EXPERIENCE. It was three dimensional immersive and actual dome experience for the students. The students had a fun and engaging seminar where they were taught a variety of animal movements on Self Defence Learning from nature – Animal Kung Fu by White Dragon Martial Arts, California.
TSUS also organized its first ever Interschool Science Event – SHRI VIDVATTA. Schools like Ganges Valley and Delhi School of Excellence competed with team TSUS in the Interschool science quiz competition. All the teams displayed true spirit and zeal befitting the competition. The Principal addressed the school teams and said, “Such competitions offer a chance for participants to gain substantial experience, showcase skills, analyze and evaluate outcomes and uncover personal aptitude. They look beyond their textual knowledge and establish a relationship between theory and application of the learnt concept. It is a great platform indeed to strengthen interschool social relationships where students get to meet and bond with students of their age from different schools”.
Thus ‘Exploring Science Week’ aimed at Igniting the Curiosity to learn, explore, create and think out-of-the-box. Once the students mind is set on fire of knowledge, it will find its way to provide its own fuel. The ultimate goal of education is to create platforms where students love to learn by exploring and finding reasons to substantiate their learning and then apply in their real life.
