The Election Commission of India today reviewed the poll preparedness of the state of Telangana,where elections to the Legislative Assembly would be conducted in December 2018.A district wise meeting was held in which the District Collectors, who are also the District Electoral Officers enlisted the arrangement s being done for smooth conduct of elections. The Superintendent of Police (SPs) explained the measures being taken on the law and order front .
The Election Commission suggested that since these elections are aiming to increase the turnout of people with disabilities (PwDs) – Accessible Elections and see that they cast their vote , care should be taken to provide assured minimum facilities like ramps, wheelchairs and Braille signages at all polling stations. The ramps in all polling stations should be according to the CPWD specifications.
The Commission also advised the DEOs to ensure that all EVMs and VVPATs are in working condition and ensure their safe keeping for use in Parliamentary elections due next year.
Another suggestion by the Commission to the officials was regarding identification of icons for every district and including them in voter sensitisation campaigns.
The DEOs also dwelt on the steps taken for purification of electoral rolls, SVEEP activities to increase the voter turnout.
